1. There have been many changes relating to the M/F reproductive system. In the past years, if something went wrong there was not much to do about it. Now we have technology that can help the reproductive system for male or female. If a man is not able to produce a baby and a couple's dream is to have a baby, they can always look for the sperm donations that are being made around the country.

2. The reproductive systems are like dominos because if one thing stops working or something goes wrong, it changed the entire process the reproductive system

-It is a flexible dome shaped cup
-Bendable rim
-inserted in vagina to cover the cervix
-used since 1830’s
-Used by women seeking control over pregnancy
-Its purpose is to block opening of the uterus and prevents sperm from joining an egg
-2 types à Flat ring option and arcing option

Slide 4: How It Works

-It is inserted into the vagina
-Before insertion, coated with spermicidal cream
- It can be inserted by using fingers
-It is held in place by vaginal muscles
-Can be inserted up to 2 hours before
- Squeeze the rim of the diaphragm and use one hand to spread your lips. The other hand is used to slide the diaphragm into your vagina
- For removal, hook finger around the front rim and pull out

-Your doctor gets you one that fits
-Your doctor will examine you to see if you are good to use one
-They can be purchased at pharmacies with a prescription
-An examination to see fitting costs from $50 to $200
-You are to be re fitted after pregnancy, abdominal surgery, 20 percent change in weight, or if it is over 2 years old

-Usually most women can use the diaphragm
The following should not use!
-Women that aren’t comfortable with touching their “areas” should not use it
-Having given birth within in the last 6 weeks
-History of frequent urinary tract infections
-Recent cervical surgery
-Poor vaginal muscle tone

-No effect on natural hormones
-it is reversible
-it can not be felt by partner
-effective immediately
-can be easily carried (in purse)

-it is a messy method

-some women find it difficult to insert
-diaphragms can be pushed out of place by penis sizes, thrusting angles, and different techniques
-they may require refitting

Prenatal Tests


Ultrasound

- Ultrasounds can be performed at anytime during a pregnancy. There is no recommended number of ultra sounds because it should only be done when it is medically suggested.
- Doctors office or hospital
- The test looks for the heartbeat, location, and shape of the baby. It can also be used to verify dates and growth and to see if here is any movement.

CVS Test

- Between 10 and 13 weeks of the last menstrual period.
- Doctors office
- It looks for chromosomes abnormalities, genetic disorders, and it can also be used to view the DNA. It is different from Amniocentesis because it does not see neural tube defects.


Glucose screening and tolerance test

- 26-28 weeks. In the third trimester usually.
- Doctors office
- Identifies gestational diabetes in pregnant women and it determines whether diabetes exits or not by seeing if the body uses glucose effectively.

Group B strep test

- Between the 35th and 37th week.
- Doctors office
- The test look for the bacteria that can be found in the vagina or the rectum


Amniocentesis


- Amniocentesis is usually done between 14 and 20 weeks. Some may be required as early as 11 weeks.
- Doctors office
- It detects chromosomes abnormalities such as Down syndrome or Trisomy 21 and neural tube defects. It is also used late in pregnancy to determine if the baby’s lungs are developed enough to breathe on its own. It can also provide access to DNA.
